A Memorial Portrait

Dr. Adolf Hörhager, born in Kaltenbach, was a lawyer, politician and economic official deeply rooted in his Tyrolean homeland. As a courageous opponent of National Socialism, he paid for his convictions with his life: After his arrest in 1938 for public resistance against Hitler, he endured the Dachau and Mauthausen concentration camps, where he succumbed to the conditions of his imprisonment on February 1, 1940.
His legacy as a "confessing nature" who refused to subordinate his conscience to the regime is preserved today through a memorial plaque in his home community of Ried-Kaltenbach - a silent tribute to civil courage and an unbroken spirit of resistance.
