This portal keeps the memory of Genoveva Herzenberger alive – an elderly citizen of Hall who became a victim of the Nazi "euthanasia" murders.

Her Story:

Genoveva Herzenberger was born in 1860 and spent her life in Hall in Tyrol. At the advanced age of 82, she was abducted from her home in 1942. She was taken not to a concentration camp, but to the Niedernhart killing center near Linz.
Her life ended on August 31, 1942. She became a victim of "Aktion T4" (Action T4), the systematic Nazi program to murder people with physical and intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and those deemed socially "maladjusted." Under the cynical pretext of "euthanasia" ("beautiful death"), over 70,000 people were killed in specially designated killing centers. Aktion T4 is considered a dress rehearsal for the later Holocaust.
Genoveva Herzenberger's fate exemplifies the immeasurable cruelty of the Nazi regime, which did not stop at targeting the oldest and most vulnerable members of society.
🕯️Her name stands for the often-forgotten victims of Nazi "euthanasia." We remember so that such things may never happen again.
“Human dignity shall be inviolable.”
— Her home was Hall. Her place of murder was Niedernhart. Our duty is remembrance. --
