Nazi Perpetrators on Trial – Judicial Reckoning in Hall in Tyrol This blog is dedicated to the legal and social examination of National Socialist crimes committed by perpetrators who came from or were active in Hall in Tyrol. At its centre are court proceedings, biographical research, and the fundamental question of how society after 1945 dealt – or failed to deal – with guilt and responsibility. The starting point is the trial of a Nazi doctor in 1947, which serves as a telling example of how hesitant, fragmented, and frequently incomplete the judicial prosecution of National Socialist crimes was in the post-war period. Further cases will follow: since the historical examination of this era continues to yield new findings, this blog is conceived as an open and evolving documentation project. Heinrich Andergassen, Gestapo officer and later head of the SD branch office in Merano, has already been included in the account.
