The Nazi persecution of religious communities did not spare those in leadership positions. Sister Erharda (Franziska) Hendlmeier (1874–1954), as director of the secondary and commercial school at the "House of the Good Shepherd," was a central pillar of educational work in Hall.
Her steadfast commitment to the Christian educational mission brought her into conflict with the regime. As part of the reprisals against the convent, Sister Erharda was arrested by the Gestapo and held for approximately two weeks in the Gestapo prison at the Hotel Sonne in Innsbruck. Although the exact reason for her detention has not been preserved, her arrest clearly demonstrates that the Nazis specifically targeted the leadership figures of religious orders to intimidate and eliminate opposition. Her fate stands as a symbol of the courageous resistance of all the sisters who refused to abandon their convictions.
