Anton Plattner – Persecuted Clergyman and Opponent of Nazism

Canon of Wilten, Parish Priest of Innsbruck-Amras
Member of Catholic student fraternities: TMV-Amelungia; TMV-Nibelungia Hall; CV-Vindelicia Innsbruck
Anton Plattner, a Catholic priest from Hall in Tyrol, openly preached against National Socialism in his sermons. He denounced the Nazi suppression of the Church and Austria's forced integration into the German Reich. As a result, he faced repeated house searches and harassment by the Gestapo.

On 1 July 1939, Plattner was arrested by the Gestapo and taken to Innsbruck police prison, where he was interrogated and detained until 27 September 1939.

In 1940, he was put on trial for "unauthorized church collections," accused of violating Nazi press laws by printing prayer leaflets. However, he was acquitted in the main hearing on 1 November 1940.

In 1941, Plattner was arrested again alongside Msgr. Michael Weisskopf (1890–1966), head of Innsbruck’s pastoral office, and imprisoned in Innsbruck police prison from 18 April to 1 May for allegedly removing the Waldrast Marian shrine image.

Notes: "O.Präm." stands for Ordo Praemonstratensis (Premonstratensian Order) and is typically kept in Latin in English texts. "Sternkorona" is retained as a proper name (unless an official English title exists). "Mitgliederverzeichnis" is translated as "Membership Directory" (or "List of Members" if preferred). German/Austrian place names (Hall in Tirol) are kept as-is unless an English variant is standard (e.g., Vienna for Wien).
