He denounced the Nazi suppression of the Church and Austria's forced integration into the German Reich. As a result, he faced repeated house searches and harassment by the Gestapo. In 1941, Plattner was arrested again alongside Msgr. Michael Weisskopf (1890–1966), head of Innsbruck’s pastoral office, and imprisoned in Innsbruck police prison from 18 April to 1 May for allegedly removing the Waldrast Marian shrine image.
