Introduction: To Remember Is Not to Forget
These memorial portraits are dedicated to those who were disenfranchised, persecuted, and ultimately murdered during the time of National Socialism. The focus lies on the victims from Hall in Tirol and the surrounding region – women, men, and children whose lives were violently ended, and whose stories were long overlooked in official remembrance.
With this blog, I seek to return to them their names, their faces, and their stories. Each portrait is a gesture of silent remembrance – and an attempt to give voice to what was once silenced.
The portraits are based on historical sources, eyewitness accounts, and current research. They are intended not only to inform, but also to move – and to encourage thoughtful reflection on our shared past.
Because remembrance is not an end, but a beginning.
