Commemorative Event: National Socialism and Resistance in Hall in TirolThe commemorative event is also dedicated to the victims of National Socialism. Little-known resistance fighters with different fates are presented to the broader public, thus being brought out of oblivion. "A woman, Elisabeth Walder, has to start talking about it."The event introduced numerous previously little-known individuals with diverse fates to the broader public. For the first time, they received the recognition they deserve. Among those mentioned were Karl Killinger, Friedrich Corazza, and Josef Pontoi, who paid for their convictions with their lives. Also remembered were Alois Flatscher, who died during the death march from the Majdanek concentration camp to Auschwitz; Dr. Walter Krajnc, who was shot in Les Angles/Avignon; Father Franz Reinisch, who was executed by guillotine in Brandenburg-Görden; Chaplain Vinzenz Pedevilla, who died from abuse while in custody; and Franciscan friar Massäus Stemeseder, who was murdered in Hartheim. Rudolf Monz, who perished in the Mauthausen concentration camp, and four children—Anna Maria Winter (6 years), Josef Winter (2 years), Maria Winter (15 years), and Martin Herzenberger (13 years)—who were murdered in Auschwitz, were also commemorated. A special focus was placed on the resistance circle around Anton Haller and Dr. Viktor Schumacher, who were honored for the first time on September 28, 2023. The event also addressed the socialist-communist resistance of individuals and the organized resistance group led by Heinz Ehrenreich Thöni, Josef Terrabona, and Viktor Wachter. The resistance of individuals such as Dr. Ernst Verdross, School Inspector Josef Egg, Captain Johann Baumgartner, Prof. Anton Dosch, Anton Walder, Engineer Richard Matt, Paula Niederwolfsgruber, Julie Huber, Elisabeth Hafner, and Rosa Brindlmayer from Absam, among many others, was also recounted.
