My sincere gratitude goes to everyone who accepted my invitation to the book presentation on November 6th. I am absolutely delighted that the evening was once again completely sold out and that we were able to come together in such an appreciative atmosphere. A special thank you goes to Martin Sailer and City Councillor Christoph Sailer for the sensitive reading from the book, as well as to Dahlia and Gregor from the Musikschule Hall for the wonderful musical accompaniment. I would also like to express my particular thanks to Dean Dr. Jakob Patsch for the invitation and the warm welcome. I felt particularly honored by the presence of our distinguished guests: University Professor Dr. Christian Kanzian from the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy at the University of Innsbruck, Consul ret. of the Republic of Austria in the USA, Günter G. Volgger MBA, with his wife, and Dean Dr. Jakob Patsch. Your attendance was a great honor for me. Last but not least, I thank the numerous visitors whose lively participation made this evening such a vibrant and unforgettable event.

The Warning Legacy of Prisoner No. 14354

Book Presentation and Reading: “KZ-Dachau Prisoner Number 14354” – Dr. Ernst Verdross

HALL. On Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 7:00 PM, a book presentation will take place at the former Schneiderkapelle (WIDER.STAND, Franz Reinisch Platz 1). Admission is free, but space is limited.
The focus of the evening will be the newly published book *“KZ-Dachau Prisoner Number 14354”* by Elisabeth Walder, which preserves for posterity the shocking contemporary document of Hall NS resistance fighter and jurist Dr. Ernst Verdross (1892–1963).

In 1938, the regime-critical Verdross was deported to the Dachau concentration camp, where he was assigned prisoner number 14354. Immediately after liberation in 1945, he wrote the “KZ-Dachau Protocol” – a brutally honest reckoning with the reality of the camp, which specifically urges young people to critically engage with the history of National Socialism. His legacy is the urgent warning: “Such atrocities must never happen again.”

The protocol, a central source for Hall's local and resistance history, came into the editor's possession by chance after a lecture and was entrusted to her by the Verdross family for academic processing. The book now published makes this important document of remembrance culture accessible to a broad public for the first time.

Program:

  • Welcome by Dean Dr. Jakob Patsch.
  • Book presentation by Elisabeth Walder.
  • Martin and Christoph Sailer will read from the original source.
  • The evening will be accompanied by music from the Hall Music School.

Venue:

WIDER.STAND (former Schneiderkapelle)
Franz Reinisch Platz 1
6060 Hall in Tyrol
