A Life in Brief

  • February 1, 1903 | Born in Feldkirch, Austria
  • 1928 | Ordained as a Pallottine priest
  • 1940 | Refused the Hitler Oath: "My loyalty belongs to Christ, not to a criminal!"
  • August 21, 1942 | Executed in Berlin-Plötzensee
  • 2013 | Beatification process opened

The Man Who Said "No"

Franz Reinisch carried no weapon—yet his courage of conscience struck at the heart of the Nazi regime. As the only Catholic priest to refuse the military oath to Hitler, he paid with his life.
"I die not as a rebel, but as a priest who obeys God rather than men."
His laughter in prison, his letters brimming with hope, and the rosary in his hand at execution reveal a martyrdom not of despair, but of triumphant love.

Why His Witness Matters Today

  • A stand against conformity: In an age of populism and moral ambiguity, he reminds us: Truth demands courage.
  • A bridge for reconciliation: His death calls us to build peace on justice, not silence.
  • A spiritual legacy: His diary’s words--"God measures not our success, but our faithfulness"—still speak.

🕯️ May his light endure. 🕯️
