🕯 Memorial Portrait: Alois Flatscher (1894–1944)

Born: 31 January 1894 in Schlaiten, District of Lienz (Tyrol)
Residence: Hall in Tyrol
Occupation: Civil servant, later accountant and tax advisor
Political Affiliation: Fatherland Front, Sternkorona (Catholic student fraternity)
Arrest: 25 August 1941
Places of Detention:
→ Innsbruck Police Prison (until 17 December 1942)
→ Gestapo Camp Reichenau (until 8 January 1943)
→ Dachau Concentration Camp (Prisoner number: [unknown], from 8 January 1943)
→ Majdanek Concentration Camp (from 28 January 1944)
→ Death march toward Auschwitz
Date of Death: 31 July 1944 (officially declared)
Cause of Death: Exhaustion or execution
Alois Flatscher was persecuted for his anti-regime stance and murdered in a concentration camp. A devout Catholic and opponent of the Nazi regime, he paid for his resistance with his life.
