Josef Mader, a carpenter from Hall in Tirol, was born on 9 June 1881 and lived at Lendgasse 27. His life was tragically cut short by National Socialist persecution. Arrested on 14 June 1938 under a dubious pretext, he was deported to Dachau concentration camp and later transferred to Mauthausen, where he died on 5 September 1938. His official cause of death, "heart failure," masks the brutal realities of camp conditions: starvation, forced labor, and systematic violence.
We remember Josef Mader not as a number, but as a neighbor, a craftsman, and a victim of arbitrary cruelty. His fate reminds us of the fragility of justice and the importance of vigilance against oppression. May his memory inspire resilience and humanity.
